‘Worst football team’ in Britain concedes 227 goals

Madron FC have suffered a demoralising start to the season including a 55-0 loss against Illogan Reserves.
Temporary manager Alan Davenport, 68, has admitted his side are “probably the worst team in Britain” after their “embarrassing” string of results but praised his players’ attitude.
He said: “I know everybody is probably laughing at us but we will battle on. We will definitely keep playing every week and fulfil our fixtures until the end of the season. We have no plans to stop.

“Some of the players aren’t that brilliant so they are just happy to play. They can’t get games with anyone else.
“Fair play to them for turning up really. It would be easy to just give in and let their heads drop but we’ll fight on.”
Despite only scoring twice all season and having a woeful goal difference of minus 225, the village football team have managed to stay off the bottom of the table. Storm FC have that honour after being deducted points for failing to attend a fixture.
Failure on the football field is new to Madron FC who enjoyed promotion from division two of the Cornish Mining League last season after coming top.
However a mass exodus of players followed by the manager’s departure has left the village team short of quality and numbers.
“We won the second division last season and so are now playing against first division teams, but our lads on the new team are finding it very hard,” Mr Davenport explained.
”When we played Illogan it didn’t make them look good beating us as there was no real competition.
“I’m extremely disappointed. At the minute I would think we are probably the worst team in the country.”
